    Gender Empowerment Through Skills Training

As part of its Women and Youth Empowerment efforts in South Sudan, LIDO has organized vocational and business skills training programs targeting young women and men from vulnerable communities. Through these activities, participants are equipped with practical skills in areas such as tailoring, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship, while also receiving small start-up support to initiate income-generating projects.

What we do

Food Security and Livelihood

South Sudan faces persistent food insecurity, with millions of people relying on humanitarian aid due to conflict, climate shocks, displacement, and weak agricultural systems. Vulnerable groups such as children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities are the most affected, often lacking access to adequate food and sustainable income sources. LIDO is committed to tackling these challenges by promoting modern agriculture, strengthening livelihoods, and empowering communities through training, inputs, and small-scale enterprise support. By working with government, NGOs, UN agencies, and local communities, we aim to reduce hunger, build resilience, and create dignified opportunities for vulnerable populations.

Gender Based Violence

Gender-Based Violence remains a widespread and deeply rooted problem in South Sudan, fueled by conflict, displacement, poverty, and harmful cultural practices. Women and girls are disproportionately affected, facing risks of sexual violence, forced marriage, exploitation, and abuse, while survivors often struggle to access justice or support services. LIDO works to prevent GBV and protect survivors by raising awareness, strengthening community protection systems, and promoting gender equality. Through partnerships with local leaders, government institutions, and development partners, we aim to create safer environments where women, girls, and other vulnerable groups can live with dignity and security.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH)

Access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene remains a major challenge in South Sudan, where many communities rely on contaminated sources and lack adequate sanitation facilities. These conditions contribute to the spread of waterborne diseases, especially among children, and increase the vulnerability of displaced and conflict-affected populations. LIDO addresses these gaps by providing clean and safe water, promoting hygiene practices, constructing sanitation infrastructure, and working with partners to reduce health risks and create safer, healthier living environments.

Child Protection

Children in South Sudan are among the most vulnerable, facing risks such as neglect, abuse, child labor, early and forced marriage, and recruitment into armed groups due to ongoing conflict, poverty, and displacement. Many lack access to education, safe spaces, and protection services, leaving them exposed to exploitation and long-term trauma. LIDO is committed to safeguarding children’s rights and well-being by strengthening community protection systems, raising awareness on child rights, and working with partners to ensure children grow up in safe, supportive, and nurturing environments.

Women and Youth Empowerment

In South Sudan, women and youth face systemic challenges including limited access to education, skills training, employment, and leadership opportunities, which restrict their ability to actively contribute to community development. Many continue to experience exclusion from decision-making processes and lack the resources needed to achieve self-reliance. LIDO is dedicated to addressing these gaps by promoting equal opportunities, providing vocational and entrepreneurship training, supporting access to financial resources, and fostering leadership and participation of women and youth in governance and peacebuilding.

Emergency Response and Preparedness

South Sudan remains highly vulnerable to recurring emergencies such as conflict, flooding, drought, and disease outbreaks, which displace communities and threaten lives and livelihoods. Limited infrastructure and weak response systems often leave affected populations without timely assistance, increasing their risk of hunger, disease, and insecurity. LIDO is committed to strengthening emergency response and preparedness by delivering life-saving aid, building community resilience, supporting disaster risk reduction, and working with government and humanitarian partners to ensure faster, more effective responses to crises.
